Laura Hunt, recently named to Architectural Digest’s “AD 100” list, will lecture and host a design workshop open to the public
Celebrated designer Laura Hunt, named one of the “Top 100 Designers” by Architectural Digest and recently featured in their September issue, will host a complimentary workshop for design professionals and local residents at Lyons Ltd. Antique Prints gallery in Palo Alto on October 9. Hunt, who believes each job is about the client and their personality, will guide participants in defining their individual style and discuss how to gather new art and collectibles that will build a lifetime collection.
“Laura has wonderful vision. Her designs are always fresh and imaginative; she is not afraid to experiment, to mix European and American, old and new” says Dana Conley Lyons, director of Lyons Ltd. Hunt herself told Architectural Digest, “I never repeat myself… You do want to be adventurous – what you don’t want to be is reckless.”
Hunt maintains offices in New York and Dallas and has been a client of the antique print gallery since she met the Lyons at an exhibition in New York City several years ago. “Laura has been a very good client over the years,” says Leila Lyons, who co-founded the gallery in 1968. “She has always been a joy to work with in New York [where Lyons Ltd. exhibits at the Connoisseurs’ Antiques Show each fall], and we are so pleased to welcome her to our gallery for this event.”
The workshop coincides with the opening of Classic, Country, Cosmopolitan: Decorating with Antique Prints, an exhibition showcasing works from the Lyons Ltd. collection in 3 distinct styles of design. “It is our hope that the workshop, and the show, will illustrate how display techniques and framing can blend antiques into any interior,” says Conley Lyons. “I think we all have a few favorite pieces that we don’t want to let go of, or we simply love antiques… The trick is to learn how to re-invent these, give them a fresh look.” The workshop on October 9 will begin at 2 p.m. and participants are encouraged to bring swatches, chintz, and pictures to contribute to the exchange.
Since 1968, Lyons Ltd. has been an internationally known purveyor of original etchings, engravings and lithographs dating from 1490-1920. Located in Palo Alto, California, the gallery boasts over 600,000 antique graphics in a range of subjects. Lyons Ltd. exhibits at fine art and antique shows nationally and maintains an inventory online at www.LyonsLtd.com.
