Women in Art
The fall exhibition at Lyons Ltd. will survey 500 Years of Women in Art by featuring both female artists as well as women portrayed in antique graphics. Notable highlights include a collection of early 18th century natural history studies by adventurer Maria Sybilla Merian, the 19th century Victorian bouquets of Jane Loudon, and the early 20th century Art Nouveau botanical studies of Miss Jeannie Foord. We will also present a variety of women depicted in antique prints ranging in time from the 15th century icons of illuminated manuscripts to the stylized models of Art Deco fashion plates. Visit the gallery from October 20th to January 31st to peruse this remarkable collection.
Women in Business
Since its inception more than 38 years ago, Lyons Ltd. Antique Prints has been a business owned and operated by women. Leila Lyons co-founded the firm in 1968 with her late husband, Dr. Charles R. Lyons. Under Leila’s supervision and care, Lyons Ltd. grew into a national business with an international reputation. For the past six years, Leila has been joined by her daughter-in-law, Dana Conley Lyons, who acts as gallery director. The gallery has provided over ten internships in the last three years for young women studying the arts at Stanford University. From this program, gallery associate Amanda Rinder joined full-time and has been a valuable addition to Lyons Ltd. Together, the women of Lyons Ltd. maintain the caliber and diversity of their expansive collection by seeking out the best quality antiques available on the market.
